The SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office is a project by the non-profit organization akno e.V., providing support to scholars, researchers, and students affected by Russian aggression against Ukraine or the repressive policies of Russia and Belarus.
You are on the page dedicated to supporting applicants with Russian citizenship.
The SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office has been declared an undesirable organization in Russia. This means that supporting the project or participating in its initiatives may have legal consequences for those who are in Russia or travel there.

Who we help

You can apply if you meet one or more of the following criteria.
how we help icon
Scholars with Russian citizenship who have published scientific articles or monographs in the last five years.
how we help icon
Faculty members of accredited Russian universities, including those that have lost accreditation since 2019.
how we help icon
Candidates and Doctors of Sciences (PhDs)  who have participated in science communication activities in Russia (e.g., science journalism, public lectures) in the last five years.
how we help icon
Undergraduate and graduate students, as well as PhD candidates from state universities or those that had state accreditation in Russia.
how we help icon
Individuals who have been dismissed or expelled from a Russian university for political reasons since 2019.
how we help icon
Individuals who have been forced to leave Russia for political reasons since 2019.
If your situation does not fall under these categories, but the policies of the Russian government have negatively impacted your academic career or studies, please fill out an application — we will consider the possibility of providing support.

How we help

The SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office provides individual one-time financial support based on the conduct of a private online interview focused on the applicant’s research work.

If there are no direct risks for the applicant in publicly interacting with the SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office, subsequent publication of the interview recording on the project’s website or in partner publications is encouraged.
