SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office Monitoring Report 2024 on the State of Science and Higher Education in Ukraine

SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office, a Berlin-based project founded by the Academic Network Eastern Europe (akno e.V.) with the support of the German Federal Foreign Office is launching a call for authors to implement the SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office Monitoring Report 2024 on the state of science and higher education in Ukraine. The call is open until 12 May 2024. We are looking for three authors to implement the following three parts of the Monitoring Report:
- an overview of the system of science and higher education in the country including the analysis of the state of academic freedom in Ukraine (on the bases of Academic Freedom Index) (10.000 – 12.000 symbols with spaces);
- consequences of Russia’s military aggression for science and higher education in Ukraine. This part will be primarily based on the online survey among Ukraine-based scholars. SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office will help to develop the survey form and ensure the collection of data in Ukraine. The expert will be responsible for the analysis of the survey results (17.000 -20.000 symbols with spaces);
- For this part, authors are invited to propose a case study or in-depth analysis of aspecific issue to illustrate the state of science and higher education in Ukraine in times of war (12.000 -14.000 symbols with spaces), e.g.:
- Gender representation in science and higher education and its implications in times of war;
- The role of academia in the reconstruction process;
- War-related risks for the future of the Ukrainian science and higher education system;
- Integration of refugee scholars into the German/European academic system.
How the work will be organised
The Monitoring Report will be implemented remotely by the selected authors in close cooperation with the SCIENCE AT RISK Emergency Office. The three parts of the Monitoring Report should be submitted according to the schedule negotiated with the authors (but not later than 1st September 2024). The work will be remunerated as follows:
- Part 1 – 1.250 Euro
- Part 2 – 2.500 Euro
- Part 3 – 1.250 Euro
